Call for Proposals
Members of AIS Student Chapters have two exciting options for showcasing their leadership talents and technical skills at the 2020 conference. Students are invited to propose either a panel discussion or a workshop.
- Panel discussions should present ideas and engage the audience in discussion. Panel discussions should have three student panelists plus a student moderator. Additional guidelines for panel discussion proposals can be found below.
- Workshops should have specific learning objectives and focus on building new skills and/or exploring new technologies. Workshops can be led by one or more students. Additional guidelines workshop proposals can be found below.
All panels and workshops should be student-led and student-run. A student-led conference committee will evaluate the proposals.
Guidelines for Panel Discussions
- Possible topics for Panel Discussions include, but are not limited to:
- Professional development
- Leadership
- Cutting-edge technologies and/or revolutionary trends in IT
- Best practices for operating a student chapter
- New models for organizing student chapters
- Best practices for engaging with AIS alumni
- Innovations in fostering community, service, and belonging in AIS chapters
- Panel discussions should be 50 minutes long, including Q&A from the audience.
- Panel discussions should have three student panelists plus a student moderator.
- Panels should have representatives from multiple schools. To get students from other schools on your panel, you should reach out to the student chapter faculty advisors (http://sc.aisnet.org/about/chapters)
- The proposal for a panel discussion must be no more than one page, single-spaced. Include the following sections:
- Summary
- Key questions
- Key takeaways
- Value for attendees
- Participants’ names, University affiliation, contact information, and their role within their AIS Chapter
- Attach to the proposal a brief letter of endorsement signed by the advisor of the panel organizers’ chapter.

Guidelines for Workshops
- Workshop proposals for both technical and non-technical topics will be considered.
- Technology-related workshop proposals should focus on the topic’s potential impact on the world of business and IT.
- Technology workshops should ideally have a “hands on” technical component, with minimal set up (e.g. software installation) required.
- Workshop proposals can assume that guest Wi-Fi access will be available to conference attendees.
- Workshops should be 50 minutes long, including interaction with the audience.
- The proposal must be no more than one page, single-spaced. Include the following sections:
- Summary
- Major topics
- Key takeaways
- Value for attendees
- Participants’ names, University affiliation, contact information, and their role within their AIS Chapter
- Attach to the proposal a brief letter signed by the chapter advisor indicating that they endorse the proposal.
